FAQ

No. TRICARE Select, TRICARE Reserve Select, and TRICARE For Life beneficiaries generally do not need a referral for outpatient mental health services. You can schedule directly with Fortis Behavioral Health.

Our online scheduling calendar typically books about four weeks in advance. If you're relocating to Fort Bragg and need an earlier appointment before school begins, please call our office. We make every effort to work TRICARE families into our schedule whenever appointment availability allows.

Yes! To make the PCS transition easier, children and teens covered by TRICARE may complete their initial psychiatric evaluation through telehealth. A parent or legal guardian must be present during the appointment, and patients must be physically located in North Carolina during the visit.

Absolutely. As long as you are physically located in North Carolina at the time of your telehealth appointment, you can establish care with Fortis—even if you're staying in temporary lodging while settling into your new home.

Yes. Please bring your child's current medication bottles to the appointment. As part of your new patient paperwork, you'll complete a Release of Information (ROI) so we can request records from your previous provider and help ensure continuity of care.

About one week before your appointment, you'll receive a secure text message with a link to complete your new patient paperwork online. All forms should be completed before your appointment begins to help ensure a smooth visit.

Yes. During the intake process, you'll complete a Release of Information form, and we'll request your records directly from your previous mental health provider to help make your transition as seamless as possible.

Fortis Behavioral Health provides psychiatric care for children, teens, and adults ages 6 and older.

We provide psychiatric evaluation and medication management for a wide range of conditions, including ADHD, anxiety, depression, PTSD, behavioral concerns, mood disorders, OCD, and many other mental health conditions.

This is a process intended to help our patients manage their symptoms, their medication schedules and any changes related to medications.  Our practice provides a guided and conservative approach to taking medications.  We will start with a discussion of your medical history and all past and current medications, including over the counter, supplements, and herbal remedies.  Patient education is a key component of our medication management process.  Education is provided on all prescribed medications, the correct usage and side effects and a plan for any adverse reactions. The goal of patient education allows for patients to take their medications at the right time, right dosage and to be aware of any dietary restrictions needed for proper use, understand expected effects and potential side effects.  This communication between the Prescriber and the patient allows for the safe and effective use of prescribed medications. Our practice uses conservative prescribing policies. We do not prescribe opioids and limit the prescribing of benzodiazepines to existing patients during acute transition periods.

Yes. We diagnose ADHD using both subjective screenings and object computer based testing for patients of all ages starting at age 6.

Our Nurse Practitioner staff primarily provide medication management services. However, we offer Supportive Psychotherapy and Solutions Focused Therapy (SFBT) within the medication management appointments.

Supportive psychotherapy is a type of therapy that primarily focuses on providing emotional support, encouragement, and validation during difficult life circumstances or psychological challenges.

Supportive psychotherapy is mostly focused on helping you work through present and immediate concerns, including relationship issues, family conflicts, or work-related stress. If you have a history of trauma that feels overwhelming to try to approach head-on ― this therapeutic technique can help you improve your overall mental health before doing so.
