General Questions
It depends. Commercial insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid have different policies. If you are unsure please contact our office with questions.
Yes. Fortis Behavioral Health accepts a wide range of commercial insurance plans, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna (commercial and state health plans), Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, UMR, First Carolina Care, Ambetter, Oscar Health, Oxford Health Plans, and more.
Patients with commercial insurance are required to keep a valid card on file to cover co-pays, co-insurance, and any applicable patient responsibility.
If you prefer to self-pay, we are happy to accommodate and can provide an itemized, CPT-coded superbill for you to submit to your insurance provider based on their reimbursement policies.
We currently accommodate Medicare Standard Plan and various Medicare Advantage plans. Fortis Behavioral Health currently accepts NC Medicaid managed care plans. Please consult with us regarding your specific plan details to see if we take your plan.
Our practice offers a private fee-for-service cash pay option. Please visit the self-pay page to learn more. Payment in full is expected at the time of service.
Yes we do. We have evening hours for our adult patients being seen via telehealth.
Yes, we do offer telehealth services through a HIPAA-compliant portal called CHARM EHR. This platform ensures the confidentiality and security of your virtual appointments, allowing for seamless and confidential communication with your healthcare provider from the comfort of your own home.
Patients are required to keep a card on file and will be charged the day of your appointment.
If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, we ask that you notify our office as soon as possible to maintain continuity of care.
Same-day cancellations and missed appointments are subject to an $85 fee for patients with commercial insurance or self-pay. This fee must be paid before a new appointment can be scheduled. This policy does not apply to patients with Medicare or Medicaid.
If you are unable to attend an in-person visit, we offer telehealth appointments. Please contact our office in advance so we can assist with converting your appointment when appropriate.
For patients prescribed certain medications, follow-up appointments may be required before refills can be issued.
We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, AMEX, and cash.

No, Fortis Behavioral Health is a privately owned, small business providing low acuity mental health care to patients throughout North Carolina. We have a single provider and support staff. Those individuals with increased needs are best served in an agency. Monarch, RHA and Daymark are statewide agencies you may wish to contact.
This is a process intended to help our patients manage their symptoms, their medication schedules and any changes related to medications. Our practice provides a guided and conservative approach to taking medications. We will start with a discussion of your medical history and all past and current medications, including over the counter, supplements, and herbal remedies. Patient education is a key component of our medication management process. Education is provided on all prescribed medications, the correct usage and side effects and a plan for any adverse reactions. The goal of patient education allows for patients to take their medications at the right time, right dosage and to be aware of any dietary restrictions needed for proper use, understand expected effects and potential side effects. This communication between the Prescriber and the patient allows for the safe and effective use of prescribed medications. Our practice uses conservative prescribing policies. We do not prescribe opioids and limit the prescribing of benzodiazepines to existing patients during acute transition periods.
Yes. We diagnose ADHD using both subjective screenings and object computer based testing for patients of all ages starting at age 6.
Our Nurse Practitioner staff primarily provide medication management services. However, we offer Supportive Psychotherapy and Solutions Focused Therapy (SFBT) within the medication management appointments.
Supportive psychotherapy is a type of therapy that primarily focuses on providing emotional support, encouragement, and validation during difficult life circumstances or psychological challenges.
Supportive psychotherapy is mostly focused on helping you work through present and immediate concerns, including relationship issues, family conflicts, or work-related stress. If you have a history of trauma that feels overwhelming to try to approach head-on ― this therapeutic technique can help you improve your overall mental health before doing so.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a short-term goal-focused evidence-based therapeutic approach, which incorporates positive psychology principles and practices, and which helps clients change by constructing solutions rather than focusing on problems. In the most basic sense, SFBT is a hope friendly, positive emotion eliciting, future-oriented vehicle for formulating, motivating, achieving, and sustaining desired behavioral change.
Fortis Behavioral Health does NOT offer other therapy modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
Yes, when appropriate.
We are staffed with Psychiatric Mental Health providers who will be happy to collaborate with your primary care provider or pain management clinic in ongoing treatment; however we do not prescribe medication for pain or other chronic medical conditions. We do offer psychotherapy services aimed at developing coping skills, breathwork and other counseling that may prove beneficial in complementing your traditional treatments.
No, medically complex patients will need to seek a higher level of care.
Each person's history and medication list will be reviewed and an individual decision made regarding appropriate level of care.
Yes. We are able to see patients with a history of psychiatric hospitalization, as long as the hospitalization did not occur within the past year.
If you have been hospitalized within the last year, a higher level of care is typically recommended. Our practice does not provide step-down services from inpatient to outpatient care, and patients with more recent or acute needs are best supported in settings that offer multiple levels of care.
For these services, you may consider contacting organizations such as Monarch, RHA Health Services, or Daymark Recovery Services, which offer a broader range of behavioral health support.
